Fine Arts Week at Bloom Trail

This year Bloom Township District is hosting Fine Arts Week. This is a school wide event at both campuses designed to bring awareness to the value of the arts and how it relates to every aspect of life and other curriculums. In order to participate in this week-long event, there will be different performers visiting Bloom and Bloom Tail throughout the week of February 22-26. Below is a description of each performance, and their link to an area of academia.

The following is the list of performers and descriptions that will be participating in Fine Arts Week:

Monday February 22:
Bloom Township Jazz Band will be performing at in the Cafeteria during lunches. No sign up is necessary for this event.

Tuesday February 23:
•Glass Artist Lawrence Cimaglio will be conducting glass fusion workshops in the Commons, students will create a fused glass piece, teachers must instruct students on glass and fusion before attending, lesson materials will be provided. We recommend Science department classes attend since there is an emphasis on chemistry, only one class can sign up per time slot.

2nd period 45 min session based on teachers lunch
3rd period 1:20-2:10 2:10-3:00

• The Old Town School of Folk Music will have a musical performance based on Langston Hughes in the Auditorium. We recommend history or literature classes attend. This 2-4 piece offering is a show designed to be offered in an assembly setting. This group features a vocalist who played as one of the Ebon-knights with the Ramsey Lewis trio at the Baby Grand Cafe (1954) at 8th avenue and 125th Street in New York City and who worked as a Nat King Cole act as part of Legends in Concert, playing for ten years in Las Vegas and touring Japan and London. The keyboard player has played with City Rhythm (1987-1992), Jimmy D. Lane (1993), and a trio that has performed at fundraisers for Rahm Emanuel, Lookingglass Theatre, and the Chicago Cultural Center (2001-2005). Together they perform a Harlem Renaissance show, featuring the poetry of Langston Hughes and Countee Cullen and the music of Duke Ellington.

•Professional potter, Judy Huppert from Chicago Ceramic Supply doing wheel throwing demonstrations
No sign up necessary.
1st: Ceramics room (ceramics class)
2nd: Cafeteria: Students will view a demonstration during lunch periods

WEDNESDAY February 24th
•The Navy Band Brass Quintet will be performing in the Auditorium. Established in 1982, the Brass Ambassadors have performed throughout the midwestern United States for military functions, public concerts, recitals, and school clinics. This ensemble, comprised of five brass instrumentalists, performs musical styles such as classical compositions, Dixieland and march arrangements.

THURSDAY February 25th

Chef Dwight in the Commons: Chef Dwight from Robert Morris College, will be demonstrating culinary delights that highlight culture and foods’ relationship with cultural history.
