Coca-Cola Scholarship- Students planning on attending a two or four-year college should check out the Coca-Cola Scholarship. You must carry a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of your junior year of high school. They also have a scholarship for students that are first in their family to attend a four-year college. There is not a list of participating colleges available, please talk to your school to see if they participate in this scholarship.

Ron Brown Scholarship- The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.

Gates Millennium Scholarship- This scholarship is a lengthy application and if you are interested it is suggested that it be completed soon. The deadline is in January, but don’t delay. At least look at it now. Students must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American. You must also have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 on an unweighted 4.0 scale.

The AXA Achievement Scholarship – Are you an AXA achiever? In order to qualify, you must demonstrate ambition and drive, determination to set goals, respect for self, family and community and the ability to succeed in college. You must be a high school senior that plans to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States by fall of 2011. Student must have completed an outstanding achievement in an activity in school, the community or workplace and have an adult attest to this achievement. Prudential Spirit of Community Awards- This unique program provides an ideal opportunity to celebrate the spirit of volunteerism throughout your student body. Any high school student who has completed a generous amount of volunteer hours over the past year is encouraged to participate. You are encouraged to apply online!

Ayn Rand – There is an essay contest for ninth and tenth graders and a separate contest for eleventh and twelfth graders. The essays are to be responses to the Ayn Rand’s novelette and novel. See your counselor for more info. The entry deadline for ninth and tenth graders is March 20, 2011.

The National Co-Op Scholarship Program – The National Co-Op Scholarship Program is looking for minority students interested in the areas of math, science, engineering and technology. Students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. They must complete the application and include a one page typed essay describing why he or she has chosen to pursue a college cooperative program. Students must also be accepted for the 2011-2012 academic year at one or more of the eleven NCCE Partner Colleges and Universities listed: Antioch College, Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Kettering University, C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Northeastern University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo and Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund – The National Commission for Cooperative Education is proud to assist and promote the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) – the nation’s leading organization supporting Hispanic students in pursuit of higher education. HSF scholarship opportunities are available to graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll in college, community college and plan to transfer to a four-year college or university, currently enrolled college students and graduate and professional students. Students must be of Hispanic heritage, have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Oh the Places you Go- There is a $5,000 scholarship that requires an essay about your life and how you plan to benefit from your education. For the best results, tie your essay into the Dr. Seuss book “Oh the Places you Go.”

Public Housing Scholarship- Applicant must be a high school senior and reside in a PHADA member agency owned or managed unit throughout his/her entire senior year. Public housing residents, Section 8 participants or other low-income housing residents are eligible, as long as the agency at which they reside is a PHADA member. Chicago Public School- Annual awards for undergraduate students who have attended Chicago Public Schools who are enrolled in a UNCF member college or university. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and financial need. Students must file for FAFSA. Due date, number of awards and award amount may vary.

Pediatric Nurse- If you have a 3.0 and are interested in being a pediatric nurse you may want to consider this scholarship. The catch is that you have to work in Atlanta for at least 18 months after graduation. Please review it carefully. There is also another scholarship for students that are bilingual and want to study pediatrics. The bilingual scholarship gives you more money, so you have to be in Atlanta for one year for every year you receive the scholarship after graduation.

The American Legion High School Oratorical Contest – All contestants must be under the age of 20 years on the date of the National Contest and must be enrolled in a high school or junior high school during the time of participation. Two orations (speeches) must be prepared for the competition. One presentation will be based upon the contestant’s own topic of choice; the other speech will be based upon some phase of the Constitution of the United States

Intel Science Talent Search & Awards- This scholarship is one of America’s most prestigious pre-college science competition, providing an important forum for original research that is recognized and reviewed by a national jury of professional scientists. Seniors interested in studying Math or Science and are interested in doing research this year should consider applying for the following scholarship. It is labor intensive but monetarily rewarding.

Horatio Alger Scholarship – the Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- financial need
- grade point average of 2.0/4.0 scale
- involvement in community and extra curricular activities
- pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution
(may start at a two – year institution and later transfer to a four – year)
To apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs, the following items must be completed by October 30, 2010. Students must submit an online application at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships . Students must MAIL one letter of support. Only ONE letter is permitted. This form may be downloaded at www.horatioalger.com/scholarships/requiredforms.cfm . Students must also download a signature page at www.horatioalger.com/scholarships/requiredforms.cfm . In addition to these forms, a copy of your parent’s/guardian’s 2009 federal return must be submitted. Again, all of this information must be completed and received by October 30, 2010.

SAE International- Students interested in studying engineering are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. There are both corporate scholarships as well as university scholarships available. SAE scholarships assist in developing the future engineering workforce by helping students achieve their dreams of becoming an engineer. Funded through the SAE Foundation, these scholarships encourage academic excellence and help students around the world to pursue their passion for engineering.

NSA - Stokes Educational Scholarship Program- The Stokes program is open to high school seniors planning on majoring in Computer Science or Computer/Electrical Engineering at a four year college. You must meet the following requirements to apply:
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Eligible to be granted a security clearance
• A high school senior at the time of application
• A minimum SAT/College Board score of 1600 (1100 Critical Reading and Math, 500 in Writing), or ACT of 25
• A preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
• Demonstrated leadership abilities

Wendy’s High School Heisman award- The award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics, and student leadership. Eligibility for application is limited exclusively to men and women entering their senior year of high school in the 2010-11 academic year who have at least a “B” grade average and participate in at least one school-sponsored sport. We want to hear from all student-athletes who work hard, are dedicated, and have become role models for your school's underclassmen. The Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois program recruits and prepares a diverse group of bright and talented high school graduates and college sophomores who have the promise for successful careers as excellent teachers in high-need schools throughout Illinois.
