On behalf of the faculty and staff at Bloom Trail High School, I extend wishes for a healthy and happy new year to all of you. It is hard to believe the first semester is over, and the winter season is upon us. I would like to thank all of our fall coaches and athletes for their efforts throughout the season. In addition, I also want to thank and recognize the faculty and students who have been responsible for bringing us fantastic performances through drama, chorus, and band. These accomplishments show the depth of talent we have at Bloom Trail High School. The students, parents, athletes, performers, and faculty members deserve recognition for the incredible amount of time they have devoted in representing Bloom Trail in such a positive manner. A few highlights are as follows: the fall production of The Music Man, boys and girls cross country capturing the conference championships, Janalis Roche winning the conference and regional cross country meets and qualifying for the state meet, varsity volleyball winning its third consecutive conference title, boys soccer running its conference unbeaten streak to 45 to capture its fourth straight conference title, and five golfers finishing in the top 10 in the conference with Phil Andrade qualifying for sectionals. In yet another area, Bloom Trail High School has started a new intervention program this year that rewards students who exhibit positive behavior. Faculty and staff members have committed themselves to teaching a core set of values and character traits that support a positive, caring environment. To this end, faculty and staff members have the discretion to award a “Positive Behavior” ticket to any student they feel is deserving because the student did something over and beyond and deserves recognition; that student’s name is then entered into a monthly raffle for a chance to win a Best Buy or Target gift card. All of us should encourage students to take an active role in committing themselves to maintaining a caring environment at Bloom Trail. In addition, the faculty continues to align the curricula with the Illinois State Learning Standards and the ACT College Readiness Standards. We, as a collective body, must look at each student’s early progress toward college readiness so timely interventions can be made when necessary. I encourage all parents/guardians to become knowledgeable about the results of their student’s EXPLORE®, PLAN®, and ACT® results by referring to www.act.org. Once at this website, click “Education” and then choose from the list of provided tests along the left-hand side that best fit your student. For example, EXPLORE® is for 9th graders, PLAN® is for 10th, and ACT® is for 11th. I ask for your continued support in our efforts to increase student achievement. The key to our success is regular attendance, completed homework assignments, students engaged in the learning process, parental support, and healthy eating and sleeping habits. In closing, I want to wish everyone an enjoyable winter holiday season and thank you for your continued support.
